Last week, my mom visited for Music Midtown. We sipped Salted Caramel and Pumpkin Spice Lattes, picked apples, picked a pumpkin and decorated my little apartment with ghosts and jack-o-lanterns. We definitely made the most out of the beginning of fall and I ticked some things off my fall bucket list.
Here’s a recap of what we were up to!
My mom got here late Tuesday night. I only had Thursday/Friday off so we hung around the apartment after work on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the first order of business was to climb Stone Mountain. My mom has been to the park but has never climbed to the top. It only took us a little over an hour to get up and back. The park is still pretty green and so pretty. These little yellow wildflowers dotted the landscape on our trek up.
After Stone Mountain, and a quick trip to the dentist, we took a pit stop in downtown Decatur before the grocery store. I took her to my new favorite sandwich place, Victory Sandwich Bar. I first went here with my friend Katie and I’ve been hooked on their sandwiches (and Jack and Coke slushies) ever since. We got the hummus of the day (spicy sesame… noms), an Asian salad and a couple sandwiches to split. It was delicious. If you’re ever in Decatur, you should give this place a try.

After Victory, we took a little walk around the square. I’ve been dying to try Cakes & Ale (named one of Southern Living’s 100 Best Restaurants in the South) but can’t afford the price tag so we stopped in their bakery (right next door to the restaurant) to try a latte. They make their own syrups and baked goods in house! I tried their salted caramel latte with their homemade salted caramel. It was to die for! One of the best lattes I ever had. I have to go back to try more of their offerings. I might cave and get a dessert too!
Friday and Saturday were spent at Music Midtown. Everyone was great but I especially loved Iggy Azaela, John Mayer and Zac Brown Band. As you can tell, I got pretty close to Iggy and ZBB. They put on a great show and it was a great way to end our first Music Midtown experience! Check out my Instagram for more pics and videos of Music Midtown!
On Sunday we decided to go on a hunt for fall colors. We ended up in Blue Ridge, GA (about a little over an hour north) to go apple picking at Mercier Orchards.We each got a peck ($10) and I think we picked over 50 apples. Red, green and yellow varieties are in every nook and cranny of my kitchen. It was a lot of fun and not really that expensive for the amount of apples you get. We even got a fun tractor ride. When we went they had over a dozen varieties ready to pick. If you want to make the trip, I suggest checking their Facebook page or calling ahead. You wouldn’t want to drive all the way up there and pull up to them closed.
After the orchard, we drove around the mountains and walked a quick hike to a mini waterfall. We ended up eating our fried pies (you can’t go to Mercier Orchards and not get at least one fried pie) next to the trickling stream. We also stopped at the river for a little rock jumping. Sunday Funday at its finest.
I had a great time visiting with my mom and I can’t wait for her to come up for Thanksgiving with my sister. Do you a fall bucket list? What are you looking forward to this season?
