Exploring Atlanta | Brunch at Sun in My Belly

My mom and I visited Sun in My Belly in Kirkwood last Saturday for brunch. One of my friends calls this restaurant the best real life version of Pinterest and it’s true. The service was a little slow but we were in no hurry and had a great time sitting outside underneath the string lights and colorful umbrellas.

Sun in my Belly Patio

I’ve only been to Sun in My Belly once before and it was delicious. I knew this restaurant was popular for brunch so I braced my mom for a long wait but it was only half an hour. We walked around the block, looking at all of the homes in the Kirkwood neighborhood, and didn’t wait too long for a spot on the patio.

We did wait a bit for a waiter but we were in no rush. When he came by, with mason jars full of water, we ordered some coffee. My mom just ordered regular coffee but I got a vanilla latte. It was great! Sweet but no too sweet and just the right amount of milk. We also ended up with another one for free, needless to say, it was a highly caffeinated afternoon.

After we got out coffees, we ordered. We decided to split a Belly Benedict and the P.B.L.T. (with a fried egg and avocado). We definitely were not thinking about calories during this brunch.

Both dishes were great but the Belly Benedict was the winner in my book. The chipotle hollandaise, crispy bacon and sweet potato all complement each other perfectly and it comes with a lavender infused biscuit on the side that is to-die-for. The P.B.L.T. was yummy too and would be the perfect hangover cure with the pimento cheese and fried egg.

If you’re in Atlanta, I recommend giving this spot a try! It’s becoming one of my favorites in the city!

Saturday in Atlanta: Orpheus Brewing and The Nook

Orpheus Brewing tours in Atlanta

This weekend was a Saturday Funday! My friends and I headed to Orpheus Brewing in Midtown (right by Piedmont Park) to try something different than our beloved Sweetwater. It was slightly chilly in the A, so the tasting room was pretty empty at first and bit cold. Once the room filled up it was a lot warmer and more fun. I even played corn hole… second time in two weeks and newsflash, I’m still completely horrible.

Orpheus had Atalanta, Lyric Ale, Transmigration of Souls (an IPA)  and one brew on tap. (I can’t find it on their website.) I tried the Lyric Ale and the Atalanta. Both were alright but nothing I would buy on my own. I liked the Atalanta a tad more, but I seemed to be the only one among my friends. They didn’t like the sour taste. The beer is a plum saison according to Orpheus’ website and won Beer of the Year last year by Atlanta Magazine.

After we drank our tickets worth, we went to The Nook on the other side of Piedmont Park for some food, basketball and more booze. I’ve always wanted to go to The Nook but it’s been PACKED for brunch every time I’ve tried and we end up somewhere else. Now I see why it’s so popular.

Bloody Mary from the Nook  Buffalo Chicken Totchos from The Nook

I had one, or two, delicious Bloody Mary and some Buffalo Chicken Totchos. Totchos are The Nook’s signature menu item and they have 4-5 different varieties. Think of it like nachos but with tater tots as the base. I’m starting to believe that all nachos should be this way. I think everyone loved what they ordered. I’ll definitely have to go again and get one of their (in)famous fish bowls.

Some Blog Info…

In case y’all are wondering, my domain name expired and that prompted me to peek back into my blog. I wanted to renew my domain but it was going to cost me an $80 late fee!! Cue * OMG Emoji Face *. I’m going to see if I can snag my domain back, but, for now, I’m going to be floridaonmymind.wordpress.com.

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to get back into blogging, Three, almost four, months later and here I am! I have some great blog posts planned for this month and I’m so happy to be writing again.

I have a lot of travel coming up. I’ll be traveling to Lexington, Kentucky tomorrow for work.  I will be visiting the University of Kentucky’s campus and I’m excited to see #BBN in person. I’ll also be going home to Southwest Florida for Easter so be on the lookout for these travel posts in the future. I took a trip to Disney to visit my little Diamond Sister a few weeks ago with a stop in Winter Park, FL. I had a blast on that trip and some blog plans for the million and one pictures I took.

If you’re new to my blog, leave a comment and say hi. I love connecting with new people!

Atlanta in the Fall

Last week, my mom visited for Music Midtown. We sipped Salted Caramel and Pumpkin Spice Lattes, picked apples, picked a pumpkin and decorated my little apartment with ghosts and jack-o-lanterns. We definitely made the most out of the beginning of fall and I ticked some things off my fall bucket list.

Here’s a recap of what we were up to!

My mom got here late Tuesday night. I only had Thursday/Friday off so we hung around the apartment after work on Wednesday.

Stone Mountain 9.18.2014

On Thursday, the first order of business was to climb Stone Mountain. My mom has been to the park but has never climbed to the top. It only took us a little over an hour to get up and back. The park is still pretty green and so pretty. These little yellow wildflowers dotted the landscape on our trek up.

Victory 9.18.2014   Latte 9.18.2014

After Stone Mountain, and a quick trip to the dentist, we took a pit stop in downtown Decatur before the grocery store. I took her to my new favorite sandwich place, Victory Sandwich Bar. I first went here with my friend Katie and I’ve been hooked on their sandwiches (and Jack and Coke slushies) ever since. We got the hummus of the day (spicy sesame… noms), an Asian salad and a couple sandwiches to split. It was delicious. If you’re ever in Decatur, you should give this place a try.

P.S. I’m not the only one to love them. Creative Loafing Atlanta named them “Best Sandwiches” this year in the Best of List. Check it out here

After Victory, we took a little walk around the square. I’ve been dying to try Cakes & Ale (named one of Southern Living’s 100 Best Restaurants in the South) but can’t afford the price tag so we stopped in their bakery (right next door to the restaurant) to try a latte. They make their own syrups and baked goods in house! I tried their salted caramel latte with their homemade salted caramel. It was to die for! One of the best lattes I ever had. I have to go back to try more of their offerings. I might cave and get a dessert too!

Music Midtown 3 9.19.2014   Music Midtown 9.20.2014

Friday and Saturday were spent at Music Midtown. Everyone was great but I especially loved Iggy Azaela, John Mayer and Zac Brown Band. As you can tell, I got pretty close to Iggy and ZBB. They put on a great show and it was a great way to end our first Music Midtown experience! Check out my Instagram for more pics and videos of Music Midtown!

Mercier Orchards 2 9.21.2014  Mercier Orchard 9.21.2014On Sunday we decided to go on a hunt for fall colors. We ended up in Blue Ridge, GA (about a little over an hour north) to go apple picking at Mercier Orchards. We each got a peck ($10) and I think we picked over 50 apples. Red, green and yellow varieties are in every nook and cranny of my kitchen. It was a lot of fun and not really that expensive for the amount of apples you get. We even got a fun tractor ride. When we went they had over a dozen varieties ready to pick. If you want to make the trip, I suggest checking their Facebook page or calling ahead. You wouldn’t want to drive all the way up there and pull up to them closed.

Blue Ride 9.21.2014After the orchard, we drove around the mountains and walked a quick hike to a mini waterfall. We ended up eating our fried pies (you can’t go to Mercier Orchards and not get at least one fried pie) next to the trickling stream. We also stopped at the river for a little rock jumping. Sunday Funday at its finest.

I had a great time visiting with my mom and I can’t wait for her to come up for Thanksgiving with my sister. Do you a fall bucket list? What are you looking forward to this season?

A couple weeks ago, I went to a Braves game with some friends. We got general admission tickets for only $8. Score! And had a blast in the upper levels.

IMG_4526I feel like I haven’t had a paper ticket in so long!

I’ll be heading to a Braves game on Wednesday so be prepared for more pictures. I can’t believe the summer is winding down. School has started in the A and my work is starting to pick up again.

March Instagram Recap

It may be a rainy day today, but spring has been blooming all over my Instagram account. It’s just been so pretty lately. I’m glad the cold finally started to dissipate so we can enjoy the spring blooms here in Atlanta. Splashes of white, pink, and purples have been lining the Atlanta streets and dotting the landscape of Piedmont Park.

So, safe to say, most of the pictures in this post are flowers or things I saw when I was outside. Hopefully spring has been treating you as well as it’s been treating me!

Right: I went to Two Urban Licks with a friend and thought I looked cute so I posted this #OOTN. Would you want to see outfit posts from me? I’m flirting with the idea of doing some OOTD posts on my blog.

Left: I won a giveaway from Probably Polka Dots for these cute Pink House Press items and I’m obsessed with them. I’m not sure where to hang the print yet but I know that koozie will get a lot of use this summer.
Right: When it’s the first day of spring, one must get some free Rita’s Italian Ice. I got the oreo kind and added some custard. It was delicious!

Piedmont Park Blooms | www.flonmymind.com  Yoforia| www.flonmymind.com

Left: You guessed it, more blooms from Piedmont Park. This time I went to walk around with one of my friends. The Dogwood Festival is at the park next weekend. I think I’m going to walk around and see what kind of free samples I can get (no shame).
Right: After the walk around the park, I broke Lent and got some froyo. Yoforia is all organic so it tricks you into you thinking it’s good for you. Organic cheesecake is still cheesecake. Nevertheless, this was delicious.

What have you been doing to ring in spring? Let me know in the comments below!
