Strawberry Picking at Mercier Orchards | Simple OOTD

Strawberry Picking | Simple OOTD

My mom drove up to visit for Memorial Day. We went to a Braves game, had a great brunch in Kirkwood and worked on my apartment… but the highlight of the trip definitely was strawberry picking at Mercier Orchards.

If you remember the last time she visited, we road tripped up to Blue Ridge (about an hour and half drive) to go apple picking at Mercier. Apple picking was fun but strawberry picking was even better. The weather was gorgeous. We went on a weekday so it wasn’t crowded and we took our time sampling the two varieties of berries, picking the best ones on the vine. It’s $10 per person (with a special deal for the kiddos) and you get a gallon bucket to fill to your heart’s content. We definitely got out money’s worth. I have strawberries in every nook and cranny of my fridge and freezer!

When we were in the field, I did get a few pictures before I splattered strawberry juice all over my white t-shirt. Note to self, do NOT wear white while strawberry picking. It’s just a recipe for disaster. At least my Lilly scarf covered it up pretty well. 😛

Sanibel for Easter

I had an amazing Easter weekend back home in SWFL. We went to the beach everyday and just reconnected as a family. On Easter Sunday, my mom and I made the trek to Captiva and watched the sunset on the sand with a glass of wine. It was the perfect vacation.

Photo Diary: Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival

Happy#TravelTuesday! I feel time is truly flying by. I can’t believe it’s already Spring! These past few weeks have been busy for me to say the least. I went to Disney; Winter Park, FL; Lexington, KY; and I just drove back from visiting my fam  back home in SWFL for Easter.

Let’s start with the earliest trip first. I went to Disney to visit my Little Diamond Sister (my sorority’s version of Big/Little) for a little reunion. I’ve seen her only briefly since I graduated so it was a lot of fun to catch up and hang out together all weekend. We went to Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Epcot. We also went to see Cinderella with some other ADPi sisters. It was a jam-packed weekend and so much fun!

I was testing out a new camera for work, so I took a TON of pictures. Even more than the ton I usually take. 😉  I have a few ideas for different Disney posts but I wanted to post a photo diary of Epcot first. We were at Epcot for the Flower and Garden Festival and everything was beautiful. The colors were spectacular and I loved seeing all the characters come to life as topiary. The butterfly garden was bursting with blooms and butterflies of every color. Can you believe the butterfly pictures are from a $150 point and shoot? It’s crazy!

The festival will be blooming until May 17th so definitely try to visit if you can! I loved visiting during this time of year and I want to go back with my mom and sister. We all love gardening but they seemed to have the green thumbs. I, on the other hand, kill  everything I touch. RIP Orchid

December Instagram Recap

I said I had a jam-packed November but December was even crazier. I was finishing up work before the break, volunteered at RMHC three times, took a trip to Nashville and celebrated my birthday in Atlanta before heading down to SWFL.

Here are just some of my favorite Instagram posts from the past month!

If you want to see more of my Instagram adventures follow me at @njoben.

Right: I also started off the month with a trip to SweetWater with my friends. SweetWater Blue is definitely my favorite beer.

Both of these posts stem from my volunteering at RMHC. I helped organize the trips for work and we went in the afternoon. We baked cupcakes one day and cookies the next. I think the families really enjoyed it!

November’s Instagram Recap

It’s my birthday month!!!! How the Hell did that happen? Seriously, I feel like I was tanning just a few weeks ago. Oh yeah, I was lol. But Miami plays by its own rules.

I had a jam-packed November and I can’t wait to share my favorite Instagram posts from the past month!

If you want to see more of my Instagram adventures follow me at @njoben.

November in Miami | www.flonymymind.com  South Beach | www.flonmymind.com

Left: The weather was beautiful for my trip to Miami early in the month. Here’s the view of the Atlantic Ocean from the South Beach Sand.

Right: South Beach is know for its Art Deco architecture. Here’s a quick snap of one of the Art Deco hotels lining the shore.

Pasta | www.flonmymind.com  Pumpkin Spice Latte | www.flonmymind.com

I was very into sharing my food this month.

Left: Here’s a simple, cheap meal that I made with penne pasta, frozen meatballs and jarred vodka sauce that I spiced up with bell peppers, diced tomatoes and herbs. This was definitely a lazy meal but it’s super tasty. I also liked how it looked with the white plate on my wooden cutting board and a meatball peeking out from under the pasta.

Right: Here’s a shot of my Pumpkin Spice Latte from West Egg Cafe. My mom, sister and I hit up the hot spot for brunch and it was fantastic! I had the classic eggs benedict and my mouth is watering as I’m typing this. It’s that good.

Sisters at Stone Mountain | www.flonmymind.com  Garden Lights at Atlanta Botanical Gardens | www.flonmymind.com

Left: Here’s a picture of my sister and I at Stone Mountain. We went to Stone Mountain to look at the fall foilage and to feel country. It was cold but we had a great time and everything was so pretty. We also learned a bit about the carving and about the Civil War in Georgia. We’re all a little bit nerdy so it was fun!

Right: When my fam was visiting, we went to Garden Lights at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. It was super cold when we went but the lights were fantastic. The Gardens puts up over 1 million Christmas lights for the display. We strolled through the different sections of the gardens with a spiked hot coco and took wayyyyyy too many pictures of everything!

Thanksgiving 1 | www.flonmymind.com  Thanksgiving 2 | www.flonmymind.com

And last but not least, my Thanksgiving on Instagram.

Left: Here’s a picture of our Thanksgiving table decorations. If you read my post on Thanksgiving Table Style, you already knew I was going for something similar to my office luncheon.

Right: Look more food on Instagram! But it was Thanksgiving, so I had to, right? We had a great Thanksgiving feast and I have so many leftovers overfilling my freezer. I didn’t contribute to the dinner too much this year (It’s hard to cook as one person in my tiny kitchen let alone two) but I did make the mashed potatoes!

How was your November? I’d love to read (and see) your Instagram-worthy moments from the last month!

August Instagram Recap

Happy September!

I can’t believe it’s practically Fall! College Football started this week and I loved seeing the ‘Canes get an easy win against Florida Atlantic University. We face the University of Florida next weekend and, although we’re underdogs, I’m pretty confident we will be able to eek by with a win (hopefully that doesn’t jinx it). My sister is an UF alum so I think there will be some trash talking this rivalry week.

I haven’t been doing too much this Labor Day weekend. I decided to clean and organize my entire apartment and I’m pretty much done. It is so nice to see clean closets, organized shoes, a clean and organized fridge and a spotless kitchen. I’m going out to dinner tonight with a friend (I’ve already decided I’m getting the Greek salad from Newks) and I hope to hit the Piedmont Park pool tomorrow before the rain hits. What have y’all been doing this Labor day weekend? Tweet me, I want to live vicariously through you, lol!

Now on to what I wanted to ramble about.  I want to start doing mothly recaps of my six favorite Instagram posts from the month. I follow a lot of bloggers on Blog Lovin’ and a good many do weekly recaps of all of their posts. I don’t post too much on Instagram so I think a monthly recap will suit me and hopefully be be fun to read!

If you want to see more of my Insta Adventures follow me @njoben.

green market 2013Painted Post 2013

Left: At the beginning of August I went to the High Museum of Art as a part of “Fulton Free.” I walked from my apartment to the museum and hit the Piedmont Park Green Market on my way. That iced coffee was one of the best I’ve ever had. I have to go back and get some more. It was sweet but not too sweet and super creamy.

Right: I took this picture right when my Painted Post print came in the mail. I won a sorority print from Your Sorority Sister and I think it looks great on my bulletin board. You can also see my little souvenir from the High (they are featuring Dutch Baroque including Vermeer’s “The Girl with a Pearl Earring”) and some more pictures because I’m pic obsessed!

Front Page News 2013 RMHC 2013

Left: In the middle of the month I had a function with my sorority’s alumnae association but before the event some of us went to Front Page News. It was my first time there and I loved it. I love creole/New Orleans style food so it was a great choice in my book. Plus this glass made a pretty insta, if I do say so myself.

Right: I also volunteered at the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House this month with my sorority alumnae association. RMHC is our international philanthropy and I love going to the houses to serve meals and do crafts and other fun stuff with the families. For this trip we made breakfast for the house. I truly love going to volunteer and I’m so thankful I got introduced to this charity.

piedmont 2013 blake shelton 2013

Left: I have been going to Piedmont Park to walk a lot this month and this is one of my pictures from my moseying. My front camera on my phone is still broken from Luke Bryan so I have to take pictures using the selfie camera. I like how this one looks almost impressionistic.

Right: I went to Blake Shelton on Thursday and he so good. He is such a great singer and entertainer and was one of the better concerts of the season. Easton Corbin opened for him and I love to see me some Florida country so it was a great night! PS I took this with my real camera and then grammed it.

Do you have a favorite picture you grammed this month? What was August like for you? I’d love to hear about your month (and see an insta or two) in the comments!

Great Photo Editing Apps for iPads and iPhones

photo editing apps for your iphone and ipadSince I’ve gotten an iPad from work, I’ve been downloading more and more photo editing apps. One of my work goals is to use my brand’s Instagram and post at least 2 pictures a day (mainly regrams) and I think everyone is liking it so far!

With my new goal brings new apps! I have been scouring the app store on my iPad and these are my favorites.

Pic Stitch. Great Photo Editing Apps for you iphone and ipad www.flonmymind.com

Who doesnt love a good Pic Stich?

Pic Stich: I feel like most people know about Pic Stich but, if not, it’s a photo collage app that you can create so many different collages with different layouts. The best part about it is that it’s free! Once you’ve created your collage you can export it to social media apps or back to your camera roll and then you can play with the filters.

Squaready: This app I found about today and was the inspiration for this post! I had some great pictures at work and I wanted to put them on Instagram but the crop was just not working. After some Googling, I found a blog post from Carly at The College Prepster and it was just what I was looking for. This app is also free and so easy to use!

This is a great example of the Over app!

This is a great example of the Over app!

Over: Over is a great app to add fonts and other artwork/icons to your pictures. I love to use this app when I want to add a little something extra. The app itself is free but it has some in app purchases if you want special fonts/artwork kits (that nautical artwork is calling my name!)

Snapseed: Snapseed is my last app in my photo editing arsenal and honestly I don’t use it as much as I should. It’s awesome! It’s perfect for quick fixes using the auto feature and you can also tweak brightness, sharpness, as well as, focus on only a section of a picture to create a great shot. I used this to brighten up the background of a chapter picture before I ‘grammed it and I really saw the difference.

I wish I had some more examples to show y’all but I use these more on my work insta. If you can figure out what I do for a living (I don’t make it too hard) you can go to the Instagram and see for yourself! I’m also always looking for new apps to download if anyone has suggestions for great ones I havent found yet!

Even if it’s not for photos, I always love reading about what people have and use on their phones! Please let me know if you like to see more of what’s on my phone/ipad!

I would love to connect with my readers! Tweet me, like my Facebook page, email me at FLOnMyMindBlog@gmail.com or do all three!
